Review – NYX Lip Primer

Hi everyone!

Trying to get your lipstick to stay on for the whole day in daunting in and of itself, but throw in cold weather and powerful gusts and and you have even more problems. I also suffer from dry lips, so I’ve been scouring the web trying to find something that will help my lippies stay where they’re supposed to be: on my lips. Read on for my review!

After looking around online, I decided on the NYX Lip Primer because all of the other primers were too expensive or didn’t have good ratings. The NYX primer is $7 and has a 4.3/5 rating on their site. The primer comes in “Nude” and “Deep Nude.” I chose the Deep Nude.

So first of all, the primer barely shows up on my lips. Normally, this would be a good thing because some lip primers are chalky and white and can change the shade of your lip color. However, this lip primer is so non-pigmented that it’s hard to tell where I’ve applied it. On a positive note, I do feel like the primer made my lips look better even before I put my lipstick on.

On NYX’s site, they claim that the lip primer “ensures that your lip product lasts and does not go outside the lines.” I don’t really find this to be true. I first tried the lip primer with NYX Liquid Suede lippies, and I found that the lip primer had little to no effect on how long my lipstick lasted; it still transferred to my cups, and it still looked worn at the end of the day. I will say this though: Liquid Suede tends to make my lips look cracked and dry, but when I used this primer my lips looked better. I’m unsure if this is because of the lip scrub and vaseline that I used beforehand, but I do think the primer helped.

I then tried the primer with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. This time, the lipstick lasted longer on my lips, but I’m unsure if that was because of the primer, or because the soft matte lip creams are known to be tough. But, like my lipstick the day before, by the end of the day my lipstick was noticeably worn.

I’m not expecting a lip primer to save my lips from everything, but it would be nice to have something that will extend the life of my lipstick. If you want a product to enhance the look of your lips, the NYX Lip Primer will help, but as far as lasting lipstick – no.

Xoxo,

Témi
