A Guide to Press-On Nails

on

Hi guys!

I used to be obsessed with getting my nails done. I would go to the salon every 2 weeks to get my acrylics filled, and I kept this routine up for about 2 or 3 years. I eventually stopped (because I was a broke college student), but I’ve recently wanted to get back into the nail game. However, instead of acrylics, I’ve been reaching for press-on nails. They’re convenient, inexpensive, and easy to take on and off. Read on for my press on guide!

The Nails

There are so many nail brands out there, and I’d advise you to try out a couple until you find one that you like. You can play around with color, shape, and length. Personally, I prefer rounded, matte nails that are on the longer side. Remember that if you don’t like the nails, you can always cut or file them into the style that you want. There are no rules! Now read on for a few of my favorite brands.

I first discovered this brand on Amazon, and instantly fell in love with their holographic nails, which I got a ton of compliments on when I went to Electric Zoo. The brand also offers things like nail stickers, nail brushes, and other tools.

imPRESS

Google led me to this brand, and I immediately liked what I saw. I also love that imPRESS has a line of press-on toenails.

Kiss is the brand that my BFF uses, and she convinced me to try them as well. Sold at most drugstores, this brand has everything from nudes to mattes to fantasy nails.

Static Nails

Static Nails are very popular on social media, and for good reason. Their eye-catching styles make them the perfect pick for fancier events.

The Glue

Fun fact – in order to get the maximum life out of your press-ons, the glue you use matters so much more than the actual nails. Most nail companies will send you a vial of glue with the nails but 1. not all do and 2. sometimes that glue isn’t as strong as you’ll need it to be. These are some glue brands that are worth their weight.

Nailene Ultra Quick Nail Glue – This is the #1 nail glue on Amazon, and the reviews back it up.

Kiss Products Maximum Speed Nail Glue – No time? No problem. This glue sets in 3 seconds.

Tailor Bond Glue – This is a very thick formula, and with good reason – the brand claims this will extend wear for up to 2 weeks.

Nailene Ultra Adhesive Tabs – If you’re not into glue, these adhesive tabs will also do the trick, but for shorter wears.

The Application

  1. Open your pack of nails, and pick out the nails that fit on to each of your nails the best.
  2. File/shape/cut these nails if needed.
  3. Wash and dry your hands to make sure there’s no oils or dirt on them that would reduce your nail wear.
  4. Apply the glue to your natural nails. One or two drops should suffice, but if you need more, go for it! Some people also apply a drop to the fake nail as well.
  5. Line up the fake nail with your natural nail, starting at the bottom, and press down. Hold for a few seconds.
  6. Repeat step #4 and #5 with the other nails. At the end, you can still file and shape them if you need to. And you’re done!
  7. For removal, there are some nail removal gels out there, but I recommend simply soak your nails in a tub of hot water. You can also try soaking them in nail polish remover or acetone if you used a super strong glue.

I hope this guide has been informative for you all. Would you ever try press-on nails? Comment below!

Xoxo,

I’ve been wearing press ons ever since my Social Selling company launched them! They last me approximately 14 days for only $13-$17!
